These are THE industry standard software packages for 3d rendering guys. If any of you are making 3d art and DON'T have these, get your school email address and start downloading ;)
Thanks, but just a heads up, its illegal to make a profit off a student version of software, so you can't legally sell your maps if you are using these.
I got an older version of XSI, but I might check out the newest version, even though I dislike autodesk as a company.

Semantics shmantics, :P. There's no way to prove what version of the software we're using anyway.
If that's the Student Learning Edition than I wouldn't bother with it outside of education - the watermarks and annoying lack of features will slow you down, and teach you bad habits. If you can't afford/get industry-standard modeling tools, than go with the free ones. They'll have most of the tools you need for making sc2 models anyway (excluding possible import/export of .m3)

Doesn't mean you should abuse it.

You can't sell your SC2 maps, period. Blizzard has decided that they will not put in place a map-sharing system that requires you to pay. They will not have micro-transactions within the game. The only things they will have are character name changes like in WoW, and that can (and probably will) be done outside the game. No platinum map-sharing system, unfortunately.
And if Blizzard wanted to sell your maps, it's up to them. It's their decision. It says in the terms of use when you install and run the game that all your maps that you are sharing on BNET are the propriety of Blizzard Entertainment. That means only they can sell your maps or make people pay for them; You can't.
And to add, maps that will be sold will be premium maps, which was said to have to mostly use custom assets (which is impossible at the moment with map size restriction). Of course, there are no real specifics for premium maps yet, but they will definitely not be a generic TD or even DotA.
Hor-ray for education. lol I just entered my main email i use and it worked just fine. Thanks for the post. This should probally be stickied or something because a lot of people need modeling software.

These are the full versions of the software, as far as I know.

Bumping this topic, as with a lot of new people, I think everyone should get a chance to see this topic.

not sure where you heard this, but we will be able to sell maps in the future.
To be specific, the Marketplace is planned for 1 year after the release.

note: its 10mg limit to upload to battle.net Im sure uploading to the store will have an even bigger limit
But tbh, I think the limit is only here to keep people from spamming lame "fastly made" maps while they learn the editor.
Downloading ATM. I already had it, but it would be nice to have it legally. Also a newer version is always nice.
