I know the m3 tool was made or 2010 version, however, I wanted to double check that It should run fine in 2012? I remember a few months back reading a thread about an issue with 2011, however I think that issue was fixed. Was just wondering if I could get some info to see if this is indeed working in this version, thank you.

Would I really be missing out on any key features in 3dmax if were to get 2010 instead of 2012? ( I Guess I could just research this in google but im sure you guys could answer this faster [Im all programming, no art here =P ])
Animations are one of the key things I want to work on...so if there are some bugs with that... might end bad.
And thanks for the info guys.

From my understanding NiNtoxicated developed the M3 plugins for max 2009. Everyone's been saying 2010 lately which just makes me confused, though :P
You WOULD be losing some pretty cool max features from rolling back 2 years (Like node texture editor, some new sculpting and texturing tools and viewport canvas features) but they're advanced features that for an started are irrelevant really, even for SC2 modeling they are irrelevant. Then UI and function wise max hasn't really changed much for around 3 years. 2010 was a big change in the UI from 2009, though (if you plan to go even more backwards) Autodesk thought it was a good idea to make every single one of their programs like the MS office UI (with all the tabs and huge buttons) which is just plain awful and completely destroyed everyone's workflow that changed back from 2009 and while writing this I have no idea why I started on this topic which is me whinning about autodesk :P Anyway there you go.
But yeah, Im mainly going to be using it for some basic sc2 editing and some unity 3d work... But as you said they are advanced features which I dont think is something I would need to worry about myself.
It's something like: "My Starcraft 1 runs fine on Windows 95, but I got Windows 7 anyway to *huh* get these extra "features"." Did it changed your Starcraft 1? I am also using student version of 3ds Max 2010, the opportunity is great (PS I am a student).

I'm using 2011 and I have a problem, but I'm not sure they're related. I think I should try 2010....
Also, I'm 95% sure 2012 is not compatible

2012 does have a few weird odds and ends but it seems to work fine besides.
Mostly a bug saving animations is what we are running into right now but besides that its going pretty good.

He says 2010 in http://www.sc2mapster.com/assets/m3-export-plugin-3ds-max/ so maybe its just being dev for 2010 now? -shrugs-
