Hate to bump this but...I used the photoshop plugin fine for a few days. Now for some reason it's not working. Look at the pic I attached- for some reason the save button is greyed out, and I didn't change any settings since then..( I think). This exact same file was the one I saved as DDS earlier but now it doesn't work. Any other Photoshop users want to help ?
Not that I'm an expert in Photoshop, but try saving your image as png or tga or something else that keeps alpha channels and then transform into dds.
It's been a while since I saved my last dds in PS, but if I remember correctly I have to do the same. Probably some setting or whatever that screws up something else.
you have the wrong settings
should be DXT3 compression
no mip maps
for a start. im not sure what else since i have a different version of PS/DDS Plugin
theres many many guides on this. search function kgo.
I know this is really old but I am now trying to do something at requires the same dds plugin to work. Different file this time, same problem. The save button is grayed out. Help please!!
Note I modified my settings to what maverck said, but it shouldn't matter because when it stopped working all of a sudden, I had not changed any settings.
Oh I guess you can save TGA's...You just have to type in .tga yourself instead of finding it in the drop down list. lol
But when I import the TGA into the galaxy editor it doesn't read it properly..Its just that little blue and red square that shows up when somethings wrong. Any advice?

Feel free to Send me a PM if you have any questions/concerns!
for me its in the dropdown list ah it only shows redblue square if you save tga 16 bits need to save it 24 or 32
and i also save it compressed and works well
Oh wait I have cs3....That looks like a newer version. Thats probably the problem. uggg. I'm not paying 300 bucks for an upgrade......Jeez, adobe, isn't charging a giant amount of money for your product ONCE enough... >.<

.TGA format has been around for forever, so it's not an issue with CS3 or 5 or whatever.
You need to make sure you're using RGB, 8bits/channel. You probably misunderstood and set it to 16/channel or 32/channel, making the option to save out as a .tga go away.
I'm using a MAC with Snow Leopard 10.6 and PS CS5. I save my image as a .tga/24 bit. When attempting to import, the tga's are grayed out and non selectable. Are there other specifications that I'm missing, like resolution?? Pretty frustrating. - Thanks
If I wanted to use Photoshop to make an image for my game, how would I go about that. What file type should I save it as?
edit-
never mind, I got it. For future reference, the file type is Tga
edited again-
Tga apparently can't save transparency, which I would prefer. (its not super important, but it would be good) Any advice about that?
1) tga can save transparency, maybe you didn't check that option when you saved it.
2) The right type to use is dds. There's an official dds plugin for photoshop.
and you should uncheck 'rle-compression' cause this can turn your map upside-down
I found a converter from another thread that makes tga files into dds.
Oh wait I see you said there's an official dds plugin for photoshop...I should probably use that. Thanks.

If it's a loading screen, there wouldn't be much harm saving it as TGA
Arrghhhhh it worked again today but then stopped working again now. What the heck? I didn't change any settings....

Photoshop cant save in TGA either without a plugin.

Turns out you can not place it on the desktop. You need to place it in a folder.
