I just made a probe copy for a Purifier campaign (I want both that probe and the normal Protoss probe to be separate), but I still need to include it in the AI's 'can control and should' list. Any hints on how to do it, even on galaxy?
Let me elaborate - I'm trying to make the Purifier Probe do all the things the normal Protoss Probe does, when the AI controls it - mine, build, all without needing to resort to triggers, just when I'm activating the AI. Issue is, even the Purifier Nexus doesn't build the Purifier Probes either, not even with bullies set.
At least the normal unit production (Gateways, etc) is working fine, building normal Sentinel Zealots and Energizers, so my problem here is limited to Probes and Nexii.
Honestly, in this case I would suggest using a upgrade to completely change the probe for the AI, switch the model, name, abilities, etc. This is however problematic if you want to use both for the same player.
I really don't know, sometimes the AI just refuses to use certain units.
Also check if the "AI ignores this unit" flag is checked, that would cause this.
Be sure to check out the extension mod: Hots Custom Map support on NA and EU, Despite the name it greatly expands the roster of options for the default 3 races and is updated all the way to NCO.
I believe there is a flag for units to be considered a "worker". I would think that would be enough for an AI to figure out that they can be used to mine things.
I think the AI will automatically use them as long as they are aware of them. The AI is actually pretty smart when it comes to finding units to build other units. Some times when you create a unit or order the unit around with triggers then the AI loses awareness of it.

Every time you issue an order to a unit, the unit will be script controlled. Use suggest order instead. If you can keep track of the unit, after the issue order, you can disable script control and wave usage for an unit to return it to its default state. I also use this method to make units follow my orders in my library and then resume their "intelligent AI driven action".
To provide my two cents on the topic, if you use a custom worker unit, a campaign AI with bullies or stocks should work fine as long as it is properly setted in data editor. So modifing a default worker unit is the way to go here :)
