validators dont seem to be able to make an arc from anything else than a unit.
i solved it with 2 persistant (first sets an small offset on the x-axis of source unit) and a search effect which pretty much works like the validators. it looks for the attacker infront (which is left of the source unit) and back (right) of the persistant facing the source unit.

does anyone have an idea how to check if a unit is left of another unit but not right of it.
this validator only checks if it is left OR right:
