So, I downloaded a trial version of 3DS Max in May. I assumed the trial wouldn't activate until I installed it, but... for some odd reason when I try to install, I get a 'connecting' with a progress bar, and then it stops. Nothing happens after the progress bar is filled; nothing, absolutely nothing.
Why is this a problem? Well, NiNToxicated recently got his M3 plugin tow work with animations, so I wanted to make my model for Kheldrun. Unfortunately, since 3Ds Max won't install, I'm stuck. What do I do? Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong/help me?
i dont like supporting pirating to much but, you can just go to a popular site like h33t or demonoid and have teh full working 3ds max 2011 installed on your computer and ready to use in an hour or 2.
Hehe. I did download the trial version, too, specifically for using the .m3 exporter. I got the program in may as well, however I don't recall anything really going wrong. Have you looked at :
I think I found the issue: My computer's specs do not line up with the current 3DS max's requirements. >_<; It may be refusing to install due to that. Though, it's not giving me any error messages, which is weird.
i know another issue o.o why the hell is the program everyone is reccomending, a 3000 dollar program >.< no way in hell i'm paying 3000 bucks just to be able to build my own models in game >.< that's insane. granted i don't exactly feel safe bootlegging it. so i guess i'm screwed.
Glad you figured it out, my first bet upon reading the topic was a computer specs issue. It's not an easy program to run.
I'm just curious who does their market research to determine what price point it should be sold at. I bet the did research but stopped at a certain price point and didn't even consider charging something normal like around $100. The expensive part is designing the the program, not spitting out the disks. With player mods, including remodeling, becoming so popular I bet it would sell very well at a more reasonable price point than they expect.
I have an awesome three step process for you to get 3ds Max cheap and legally.
1. Sign up for some class you always wanted to take at your local school of choice. (Hopefully a online class so you don't have to travel)
2. Get a school email address (Make sure the school gives you a school email that ends in .edu)
3. Get 3ds Max for free by signing up on their site with your schools email (You get a 3 year license for free)
Yup. I know that already. I don't have an .edu email. I'm in a university, but they DO NOT require an .edu email. I use my gmail one. I don't know HOW to get one either. :/

That's something I really wanted avoid. :/ I'll think about it, though. If anyone else can come up with more legal solution, I'm welcome to it.
