HotS Update

Heart of the Swarm Update

Blizzard just announced some fairly major tweaks to the HotS Multiplayer. You can read the full article here if you're interested. The major changes include:

  • Shredder removed due to the fact that it was being abused
  • Warhound might be removed soon
  • Blizzard is considering giving terran long-range cannon that can help break siege walls
  • Blizzard is considering giving the thor anti-air spider mines
  • Replicant was removed, because it forced enemy players to not build good units (out of fear of being copied)
  • Tempest changed to be a long-range aerial siege weapon, instead of a anti-air splash damage ship
  • New viper ability allows it to blind enemy units in an area of effect
  • New viper ability allows to restore energy by feeding off mineral patches
  • Overseer has been brought back, and the viper is now a pure caster
  • Overseer will be tweaked to make it more fun in the future
  • New types of nydus worms are being added; One example is a worm that can spew creep across large areas to create "creep highways"
  • Blizzard says they want to get HotS and Blizzard DOTA out to the public "sometime in the near future"

Blizzard posted this video with the HotS update, and though it's completely unrelated, it's still awesome.

    Anyway, where's this HotS stuff to play...cuz I'd like to try it... Pity about Tempest though. Toss mighta had a proper anti-air that didn't feel like crap.

    Shredder,warhound and replicant removed, those are half the new melee units already. Games will be released sometime in the near future....

    Sounds like a delayed april fools to me.

    1. Swarm Host
    2. Brood Lord
    3. Baneling if there are no siege tanks around
    4. Viper's pull abilities if there are siege tanks around, then banelings again
    5. Drops & Nydus if you can pull it off.

    Right, we need a unit that can explode on walls and make holes... Ohh wait, We got Baneling!!!!

    Gorandor: baneling don't do a ?%& vs siege tank, they get killed instantly!

    That's why you got roaches, to take the damage while your baneling destroy the wall, and there is also the ability to Load and unload troops with the OVERLORD!!! and know what!? NIDUS WORMS!!!!

    Omg.. so much ways zerg already have.... Plus they are addings movement to burrowed baneling and siege nydus worms...

    What? Sure. Let them scan and demolish your base with a long-range cannon so you can't fight back at all. Oh wait, that's a Siege Tank.

    They should give Zerg some kind of way to easier break the goddamn Terran/Toss wall-ins. It's becoming quite ridiculous by now.

    Cutting ideas that don't work is just a natural part of development. If one throws together a bunch of ideas for their awesomeness value alone, instead of retaining only those that are coherent within the design objectives, you end up with a morass of gameplay elements, not a game.

    Yup Zelda, like the dark templar version of the carrier, the Soul Surfer, the Reaver, the lurker.... All units which was in the game before behing removed :D

    And I quite love the new changes!!! Dustin is the Man xD

    They did *scrap* a TON of units for WoL, guys. They just didn't tell us until later. This is perfectly normal for any blizzard game :P

    ...Meh iz no happee. At all. New units already being removed? LMFAO... I'd rather see the Carrier brought back and the Fleet Beacon made useful, rather than this mess. The new Zerg units require micro to make good use of them, which is insane considering the high level of micro already required to play Zerg properly. Giving more siege-breaking power to the Terran is also a mistake IMHO, it will only be used in TvT when people keep spamming the terrain with tanks in siege mode. We're back to square one and I don't expect the game to be released "in the near future". This is getting ridiculous, I'd rather spend some time in Diablo 3 instead of waiting for them to balance HotS properly...
