Dune: Evolution ([ADVENTURERS])

Dune: Evolution Dune: Evolution is a project that aims to create a modification, or, to be more precise, a total conversion, an attempt to recreate Frank Herbert’s universe within the boundaries of the RTS genre, as close as possible.

The reason why we post this here is quite simple – we want to find people who can be interested in our project, who can join our team of developer-enthusiasts, who have enough skills to work with Map (galaxy) Editor to make a mod (a total conversion) Dune:Evolution based on Starcraft 2.

The project exists for a while, now our team has artists, 3D-modellers, animators, composers, etc. We have already done much, the campaign scenario is almost finished, we have designed the game mechanics, we have much graphic materials (concept arts, drawings, stories) to create the necessary atmosphere and to maintain it, we have unit lists and tech trees, most units and buildings are ready and the rest will follow soon.

Dune:Evolution has already gathered many people who await its release, and it gathers a large audience during public updates. People who have seen our works have mostly positive comments, and their only complaint is that the project was delayed for a bit, while they want to see it released and to try it out.

There is a delay, indeed, and it is caused by the fact that there are a few games that can implement all the features we want. C&C3: TW, which was planned to be used in the beginning, turned out to be very limited and is very difficult to modify, some things are even impossible to implement at all. We still struggle against all the difficulties, we still make the mod using C&C3:TW, slowly but steadily, yet at the same time we look at other games.

With the release of SC2 we noticed that many people say it is a good platform for modding and different mini-games. Of course, we want to try it, this is the reason why we ask your assistance. If SC2 turns out to be better (and it is quite probable) then we will be able to move our mod completely to it, if a good specialist joins our ranks.

Both sides would benefit from such cooperation.

Those who wish to join are required to:

  • know Map (galaxy) Editor (compiling the mod, setting the properties of units/buildings/objects, user interface, effects, etc.);
  • *It is not necessary to know all this at once, several people may join and work on different aspects of the mod *
  • have interest in the project, the desire to work and improve;
  • be able to give at least several hours a week to the project;
  • stay working and not to disappear for a long time without any explanations;
  • prevent any leaks of information so it would not spread chaotically, but would be presented in a decent way through public updates;
  • know English well enough, at least for forum discussions;
  • We will prefer people who speak Russian as well, but it is not crucial, but the fact is that the majority of the team are Russian-speaking, but everybody understands English – but not everybody can speak it quickly and fluently enough without any mistakes.

    I wish you guys luck, this sounds really great, i hope you guys can get this sucesfully done and put on battlenet, cus this sounds awesome. wish i couldd help, but i just dont have the free time. but i wish you luckk and am sending happy thoughts!

    And if any body calls me a pansy for being so nice, i WILL pwn them in any game they please.

    hi! im new, help a girl out? i need a team and nobody wants me cuz i stink... im pretty good at making strategies so i can be a strategie maker or scientist i just stink at actually doing them...

    1. In sunday will be ready translation of the first substantive part of the description of gameplay. Then I'll create a forum. Also, later on, I'll create a forum with key issues of interest to us. I am sorry that you have to wait.

    3. Yes, indeed, the main page of our website updated a long time ago. But in our forum continues pretty much activity, at least in the Russian language section. This is due to the fact that our site does not have permanent English-speaking users. They rarely comment on anything, and rarely ask questions, so we can not answer them. Therefore, the timeliness of the information in the English section is not very good. =( I do not really know how to change this situation and, so far, the principal amount of our English-speaking community is located on external websites such as moddb.com. In addition, we have not yet been disseminating information about that plan to move to SC2 platform, this is known only by this site's users and members of our team. Quite simply, we think that such information is worthy for arrange a separate news item, and for this we must first have something to show.
    4. In fact, now the team has only one coder and now he and I together are trying to understand how to modify the game. Now this is the main things what we do.
    5. That would be perfect. We do not want to hang on anybody any special obligations if you do not want. If you can help with advice - it is good, if you can help by doing something - it's great. We welcome any assistance and in any case, you will become part of the history of development, no matter whether your help is disposable or permanent. We will not forget anyone.

    But I know with the amount of artist you guys have, it will be successful anyway, as those custom models really rocks.
    Basically you can easily recreate any today's rts game, with the editor.

    1. You can also create forums for your team in the team control panel.
    2. You should also take that whole post from that other thread you made and put all that info up on the "teams" main page.
    3. I managed to find my way to your teams own web site it seems pretty out dated and there seems to be no information on your switch to SC2 engine. I cant imagine your going to continue to develop in C&C and SC2 at the same time.
    4. So whats the current status of your coders for C&C are they working on switching to SC2 or what?
    5. If you have smal examples of stuff you would like to see implemented in SC2 id be glad to put together some demos. But I really dont have the time to work out. An entire system for the game.
    6. The vast majority of what you need for your own tech trees and races and such can be done through the data edtior, with custom units and such.
      1. Resources can be done pretty easily

    Lets get a list going of what you have questions regarding..... but make a forum for the team first and post questions there?

    Id like to see some good dune in SC2 its like fate.
