RPG Map with Dungeon

    #1 Aug 29, 2010 at 00:11 UTC - 1 like

I want to capture the look and feel of World of Warcraft and port it into a Starcraft 2 Map. It's more about mapping and not that much scripting and stuff but maybe it's a little bit entertaining.

I really like the idea of making 3rd person RPGs with the power of this Editor. This isn't meant to be a real Mod or something. I will never release a fully working version with gameplay, because I can't handle all the coding and scripting but I hope someone or better a little team of mappers/coders will make a real RPG like this

Tell me what you think about the map.

The performence is pretty bad, I have to look down a lot to get an acceptable framerate but thats because of my slow PC which can't handle playing and screen capturing.

p.s. and sorry for my bad english :)

If Blizzard allows it, I can see a lot of this type of thing in the future of Starcraft 2. Nice cave by the way.

I've started this map without the dungeon in mind, so there is much more crazy stuff possible when you set up the whole map for it.

I'm not good with all the coding and scripting stuff so I can't fill the map with mobs, Quets, NPCs and RPG stuff but maybe this will be somehow done in the near future :)

    @glomby:

Nicely done ! I hope you find your programmers so you can make some wow maps (and interesting one not most of wow)

I see one of two things possible.

    1. People see the awesomeness of your skills and want to join your team to make an RPG (hopefully ORPG) I was just thinking of how fun/silly it would be to have a WoW dungeon for say 5 players. I'm actually trying to get a working copy of my shadow priest I used to play into SC2 for such a purpose. Have a little more tutorials on 3ds to watch so I can touch it up and make it look proper.
    2. People see the awesomeness of your skills and want you to join their team. If I end up starting a project like what I just mentioned, I'd def want you doing the terraining.

even though most of the helpful stuff has already been mentioned, id really like to recomment you to find a good scripter and make a map project using the best possible combination of your teams focus´..

Even though you make great terrain, you are certain that your scripting isnt that good.. which means if you start a project outright without any help, the map could (it is not certain, obviously) end up being another blender, great terrain which everybody would love to see in a good map, and fail gameplay which ruins the experience..

i really hope you find yourself a good team and finish a project which will stun us all :P

I think when I read the contest rules they mentioned something about being able to use all blizzard related material.

    Nice terrain!^^

I'm very sweet, very colorful, very delicious. What am I? I am pooped by unicorns. Skittles is the name, you eat me daily (or should).

Very nicely done! I was thinking of how to make a lava-like area in my map and this definetely gave some inspiration :)

The terrain is amazing but I'm not sure if its really possible to have so much detail without losing FPS. You say its the capturing that causes FPS loss so you probably have a strong PC, but I myself have a pretty good PC and when I tried making a detailed map and play from a wow-like view the fps was extremely low unless looking down most of the time. SC2 wasn't meant for this camera angle and the FPS gets hit really bad, I think lots of PCs will have that problem. If your going to start a project like that, please remember that, and try to find ways to reduce those lags (I know that cloud effects for example increases it greatly), because the terrain is very pretty but a lot of people would have to play on lower settings and miss it... You should go on with this and find\make a team, it has potential.

What I have personally noticed is if you block off view with heightened terrain you won't lag as much. Perhaps try that and see if it makes a difference.

It seemed to look like rock arches, but indeed not sure.
