A map above the clouds

    #1 Aug 31, 2010 at 23:46 UTC - 0 likes

Ever wonder what the city in the sky would look like in SC2?

    http://www.sc2mapster.com/maps/sky/

I'm not exactly the greatest mapmaker ever, but i do like throwing ideas out there that might spark someone else's imagination to create a map so here's a map in the sky.

What is being used to achieve this effect? I looked in the lighting and couldn't find out was doing it.

Hello, thank you for this. I have a few concepts that can make use of such an effect and this will aid me in achieving it.

Looks awesome! Can you describe what you did like everyone has been asking. :P

Come on people, this is a sharing community. He already provided the map, if you really love it, you would have it figured out yourself. Anyway, I'll play

    - Terrain: A bunch of doodads Fog Mist around the map. Lower cliff to the lowest level

    - Data: Edited Aiur (Urban) Texture Sets:

    • Fog color: white (255,255,255)
    • Fog density: 1
    • Fog distance falloff: 1
    • Fog distance far: 0.2
    • Fog distance near: 0.2
    • Fog falloff: 0.19
    • Fog starting height: -10
    • Hide lowest level: Enabled (probably the lowest cliff)

I think I got it all. :P Is there anything missing ?

Suggestion: you could've paint a white texture for the lowest cliff so it can show up white on the minimap

I'm very, very impressed with the effects on this map, really captures that feel of being in the sky. =D

Downloaded the map, and saw that a couple of modifications would make the map look better:

    - added a shallow water layer to the bottom of the cliff and then changed its color to white. This makes the entire minimap white.
    - Changed ambient lighting to grey (128,128,128) to make it look slightly brighter.

Here's the result of the changes:

Tried lowering specularity and then increasing specular scale of the water?
I did it on one of my maps, made the water look like liquid hydrogen or something.

Very nice! Its too bad that my current map is not in the sky.

I think you covered most of what it takes progRammer.

It does look pretty. Think I might have to play with the fog doodads myself.

Sorry, i made the thread and promptly went outside for 5 hours, then to bed. What progammer said was 100% correct.

Zeratul suddenly decided to go visit a city in the sky in my campagin. I need a better excuse for the visit than that, though, lol. Nice effect, this is essentially a new terrain texture set for us to use.

edit- i noticed you have soem nice shiny looking beams of light in your pics...was that you messing w/ the lighting? I got everything else to good

I added the specular water effect on top of the low fog and some omni lights around cliff edges for these effects which will work great for part of my rpg.

Utterly amazing, I would muck around with this... But I'm still trying to get a hang of the editor itself xD

Totally just inspired me to make a TD level like this!

My one question is... can I make the fog black on one half of the map...?
