SC2 papercrafts

    #1 Aug 14, 2010 at 14:52 UTC - 0 likes

    Hi,

I created a papercraft from StarCraft 2 3D models (not a model of my own as I not good in 3D modelling) so I used the tools to convert *.m3 and *.dds files.

The model is about the Terran auto turret, the 3D model is the following:

    terran turret - 3D model

And the final paper result looks like the following:

    terran turret - paper model

If you cant to cut, fold and glue, you can donwload the sheet of paper model.

    The tools used were:

    • m3_viewer
    • mpqediten32
    • DDS converter 2.1
    • Blender
    • (Sketchup)
    • Pepakura

This was my first attempt to make paper models from a game, if some others ppl are interesting in this don't forget to make a reply to this post =)

    Mimil,

PS: some other pics are available

Wow, this is very cool! Thanks for sharing! What is the paper thickness you would recommend for the models?

I often use 160g (you can find it everywhere) but this time I printed it in 90g (no 160g near the deskjet printer I used), it is a bit harder with 90g I would say but still possible to do as you could see =) To be easier you can scale it to 200% because some parts are really tiny.

I try to see if I can do other models but I am not sure the tools I am currently using to export models are all properly working. Maybe I will ask for some help in the forum.

could you add some building instructions... this actully looks like it could be of some fun.

I'm amazed at your ingenuity. But seriously, nice job! I'll have to print that out some time.

If facebook.com were to somehow be destroyed, 98% of the world would be crying. Copy this into your signature if you're one of the people that would be flying around in your roflcopter making them hear the soi soi sois.

    @mimilowns: Go

What program did you use to convert the .m3 to a file that Pepakura can use? I've been trying to figure this out for about a week without having to torrent 3DS max and I have blender already... THANKS!

    p.s. looks awesome

Wow, nice! Hey, can you create a BC? :) I've once seen a SCBW BC, but it was textureless :(

Hi all and thank you for your encouragements,

finally here are the requested instructions:

    Instructions Plan

You can download the plan and the instructions.

@axlyin I used m3_viewer to convert the *.m3 to *.obj then imported the *.obj into blender. I saw another tool (ObjConv) which is supposed to do the same work. Last thing to do is to export from blender to *.3ds, which can be opened by pepakura.

@savannahcz I am trying more complex models but the tools I used for the turret seem to not work, I am now using the 3DStudio plugin to load *.m3 files directly. I now have to understand how is working 3DStudio =)

I have been able to deal with the new tools, BattleCruiser is underconstruction right now!

It is more or less 220 parts, the turret was 40 parts.

I probably wont have time to build it, but I would like to know if you can take a picture of the bc next to a ruler. That way, I can see how big it is before I "think" about building it. :D
