You can make an Dialog, where the user have to choose if he want this kind of language.

Is it bastard as in bastard son or is it bastard as in idiot? Perhaps you could use a "nicer" word with the same meaning? Tychus uses "hell" and Raynor uses "heck" in the campaign. Some swearwords are allowed. Also, who are you calling a bastard and under what circumstances? Its probably more ok if its just some random idiot while not ok if its linked to some racism etc.

There was a "bastard sword" in Diablo, wasn't it?

Starcraft 2 is rated "T" by ESRB and "16+" by PEGI so I doubt that could be a problem.

It depends more on players than blizzard - They don't check every map. I don't think they check any maps without reason. If your map gets reported, then they might look into it, but that obviously needs players to be offended enough by the word to actually bother reporting it. Nexus Word Wars got removed because it had quite a few bad words and was fairly popular, so a lot of reports were able to come in (Or Blizzard checked the map themselves due to its popularity.)

Technically, they can take down your map for any reason. The issue is whether or not they'll deem it offensive enough. There isn't any kind of automatic filter for language that will catch you, but if enough people find your content offensive, they'll report it, and that will get blizzard's attention. With starcraft being a Teen-rated game, you're dealing with a lot of kids around age 10 and up. So ask yourself this- If those kids play your map, will they find it offensive enough to exit the game, locate the report feature, and then file a report? Blizzard isn't going to seek out and ban your map for saying "Bastard" but if you offend enough people they may take action.

A standard needs to exist to enforce equality, non-discrimination etc. Otherwise the internet would most definitely be overrun by ADD Ritalin-drugged COD Kiddies. Which we dont need or want, and have to prevent.
So its great that they would ban for words like what you mentioned. People getting offended by that are hardly morons compared to the reported person whose justification of using those words fall flat against reason and fairness.

Anyone who gets offended and upset over a word, is an idiot... If you are so easily hurt that a word makes you want to waste the time to report someone, or rather tattle., you should stay off the internet... no matter the word, that being said, I can understand any word insulting someones religion, but again, if you are that easily offended, then get off the net.

Of course then again I think you should have to be 16 just to be on the net... thats whats wrong with kids now, Too much youtube and not enough spankins.

Edit: That being said, It IS blizzards game, and blizzards Servers :P so its their rules haah. But yeah anything that offends anyone, cant help if people like to cry about pointless things, can be seen as reportable material.

No words should be censored in any game that is based on killing other people, that's my opinion....

Heck, I have not even used word "Armageddon" due their silly rules when it comes to words being used.

Also just because Blizzard uses some word, might not make it all right to be used by the user.

haha this makes me remember, when you go to publish your map if you have starcraft or warcraft in the description, then it wont let you do to banned words.
