The fact that we have this thread, answers "no" to the subj. Dead forums' members understand that it's dead and don't care to ask each other about.

Well, all I want to add to this thread is that people here, even in small quantities, are awesome. They are ready to help with anything they can. Respect. +1

I believe a lot of people like myself dont post very often, but are just lurking the forums and keeping themselves up-to-date with what's going on around here.

@Taintedwisp: Go Are you sure about that? Would you answer your own questions? Would you take your own requests? I thought about asking if you would troll your own posts but the answer is obvious. ;-)
Just check what AlMaity said, go to SC2Armory and see the same 5 or 6 guys on all threads, with some random posters here and there, including Maity, and you will see what a dead forum looks like. But mapster isn't really far away from being dead if take number of posters (frequent + random) alone, the main difference is that mapster is still productive. We have people working on everything that is needed to make custom maps. Even the old lack of modelers appears to be gone.
Mapster would only be dead if the Maps section and Assets section stopped being updated. If we didn't have new projects on the first page. Lack of new posts and threads doesn't mean we are dead.

When Legacy of the Void is released, in a few centuries, the sc2mapsters will return from the shadows...

Not really dead, just...lacking.
It would be nice to have people answering your questions all the time but the fact of the matter is people aren't as active as you'd like sometimes.
For instance I like to help whoever I can whenever I can, but there is still alot I've never needed to know and thus don't know, besides the fact if you're trying to help everyone you're going to get strung out. Then the people who do know these things don't really care for browsing the forums (I imagine), I guess because they already know what they need to thus there is no need to browse the help forums? I wouldn't know.
So give it a few days then bump your thread, if you're really itching for help IRC is the best place for fast and informative help. As well you can ask lurkers like me for help and generally it will be reciprocated.

No not Dead by a long shot. you've got to take in to account the amount and the quality of info on this site is amazing and so are the people. ok some are a bit warped but still give great advice and guidance to us noobs. but i must admit the search engine on this site is bad. ...

I agree with this. While SC2 mapster may not seem as active as it used to be, its far from dead. Dead is when the community is no longer mapping/modding SC2, and that's not the case.

You mean like me answering 66%+ of all data questions before they are dead and buried?
Anyhow it is just after new year and alot of people are away on holidays still. Infact I was surprized how quiet it has been the last week or so.
At the peak the data forum gets two whole pages of new questions each day which is a pain to handle. Most are beginners needing advice who are too lazy to use the search. After thay have been shown the obvious ropes they no longer need guidance so post less frequently and even occasionally come up with a difficult question.
As stated people have gotten bogged down in their time consuming projects so community stuff like the community project and wiki are less frequented.
As for HOTS, that will mean a new wave of people taking up SC2 and even if the melee is poorer, have you seen some of the mouth drooling units being released for the hots campaign? It will create a new wave of horror/survival maps (or less moral tentacles involving skantily clad women).

In 2010 when sc2 first came out nad everyone was excited about the new and powerful editor blizz had been hyping up there where alot of people on this site. It would seem around 95% of the origonal map making community is dead, but there are still some people around, certainly enough to answer questions and what not, they have been helpful to me. Most of it was killed by both the popularity system and the editor being too complicated for the majority of sc2s teenage fan base.
Its also kind of funny becuase here and around the web most of the tutourials and everything u find related to map making are from 2010, its like if you want to figure out how to do something you have to read through ancient losts texts written by the fore runners whom are now gone, and even taht is difficult in the translation and understanding of it given some things in the editor have changed since then, plugins have become out of date etc.

That and I am constantly developing and discovering new data methods. To think no one knew what the Battery ability did until I demonstrated it. Besides I do not see anything like my walker back in 2010.
Also does no one ever read the wiki?

Dead? Nope. I honestly browse over the forums all of the time without posting much. It's just that the mod community for SC2 is relatively small compared to games like half-life and skyrim. And thats simply because blizzard didn't release the same types of mod tools like those other games. I guarantee you if we had a tool that allowed people to easily edit female characters we would have a billion underwear/bikini/and nude mods of Kerrigen, Nova and the rest of the female starcraft 2....
But seriously most individuals come to this web site so they could either get help with developing their mod or to simply gain inspiration for their projects. People will rarely come here to socialize in forum posts because of Facebook, Twitter, and Skype -_- which results in less frequent traffic.

yeah i hate social networking, and I blame them and youtube for the death and the decline of intelligence on the internet, but that doesn't change the fact that blizzard didnt support us for 2 years, and just recently started to. Hopefully they will keep helping out, Remove that stupid fucking EULA bullshit about owning our shit, and will even admit on the editor that they support it....
