Arcade Play Analytics

I posted this originally here: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/7415154504. A few people replied so I wanted to see if I could gauge the interest of mapmakers from my favorite place for SC2 mapmaking.

Hello, I wanted to know if anyone has requested any form of analytics from Blizzard for mapmakers.

Right now I feel like I have no connection to the people who play my mods outside of social media and forums. Also, because my mods are not played as much as the more popular ones, it is harder for me to get feedback and know about the types of people that play my games. Would it be possible for Blizzard to implement analytics that show data about people who are playing our games?

Examples of what I would like to know... -How someone got to my game -Click-thru rates -Bounce rate on Arcade info page -Keywords used in the search of Arcade to find my game -Amount of time played -Time of day the map was played -Country of players -Language of players

I feel like this will allow me to create optimized Arcade pages and make a better mod. Obviously, this is a way lower priority than creating an awesome game, but, if the data is already in place, I wanted to know if it could be released. Are any other mapmakers interested in seeing this type of data?

A melee mod - The A-move stops here.

some things could be cool indeed. I would really like to see ingame statistics too like which hero people mostly use or what content they play. I could save this to banks, but no way to get the data from all banks.

as for other features they could add. I would like to see hours played, average time of player stayed ingame. All statistics are cool, so Im all up for it.

Cannot post this to US forums thou, im EU :(

    My youtube channel: Here!

Project "Magic RPG" - Enter the Magic

    Project "Goku Firebat" - Kaaameeehaaameee...

Ehhh, I can see why in theory you would want it, but i dont think it would really be that useful, in the end it wouldn't tell you much, it MIGHT tell you at what time most people are quitting, and MAYBE what unit people are using the most, but that would most likely be the extent, I just personally wouldn't see any use for this at all. I just think there are many many many much greater things for blizzard to focus on.

my maps will always be Free. and Available to the public at the earliest possible date.

If you need a tester feel free to ask IShadowWolf.258

    cough

Yes you can get that data from banks, similar to a ranking system. Instead of 3 players in the top ranking, you have 3 heroes for example. You give 1 point to each hero everytime someone picks it and save the new ranking to everyone's bank. You don't show that to anyone. You always spread the highest rank. It won't be perfectly accurate, but it will for sure be an underestimation of how much everyone picked each hero, and the numbers will be high enough for an accurate prediction.

these things would be interesting but much better would be a inbuild bug report page. for now players are able to write 1 comment to each map, that's it. an additional page for bugs would be awesome, everyone can write a bug report as many as he likes. the map maker would be responsible for sorting the responses. Visiting the map link, register to a forum and writing the feedback is just too much work.

For sure "any" stat is of use.. but how about the obvious: how many times your map was "played" .. that seems ez for Blizz .. but not in their interest at all :(

Thats a good idea, i could see it now. Make a custom bug report UI that a player can bring up with a command like -bug. Player can type into the textbox and submit it to your bank so you could check your bug reports or comments w/e. Collecting data on the prevelancy of use of certain units/heros is also an interesting prospect, that would be very good data to have depending on what kind of map you have.

My only concern about this is space. Under the old popularity system you could see hours played per day or something, at one point my first map was being played by around 300,000-350,000+ people a day calculating the hours played and players in game, it was on the front page at #2. With this many people playing per day id htink you could fill up your bank, i dont know alot about banks and im not sure what kinds of problems that might cause, or if someoen found a way to fill up the banks with the report UI and cuase that problem.

Bug reports would definitely fill the banks. The only thing you can really store like that is counters. What you can have is an integer that counts the number of bug reported for each area. When the player types -bug, it gets a list of possible bugs, ex:

    1 - Bug with hero X

    2 - Bug with minerals

    3 - Bug with attacks

    4 - Other bugs

    and so on.

Then, if the player types -bug 2. You increment the integer for bug with minerals.

So, by spreading data like a ranking system, you would have something like

    Total bugs with hero: 2

    Total bugs with minerals: 23921

    Total bugs with attacks: 7

Based on those numbers you can guess there is probably a bug with the minerals and start searching for it.

my idea was that blizz just adds a new window, just like the comments, but for bugs :d . saving in banks would take too long to find a bug at all.
