    For those who don't know it, it's the Dutch version of Santa Claus. (or better said Santa Claus is the american version of Sinterklaas)
    It's celebrated amongst others in the Netherlands, Belgium, some northern parts of France.

    wiki explanation for those who are interested in it

    the Santa Claus from american (or here just called Christmas man/ kerstman)   is a ''redesign'' from sint nicolaas (the orginal name of the sinterklaas tradition)

    sinterklaas was originally a Bishop in myra

    coca cola was impressed about our ''sinterklaas tradition'' in the netherlands they have made there own sinterklaas a version who dont come out (hot) Spain but out the (cold) north pole

    the day to celebrate this is on 5 December (the birthday of sint nicolaas) parents give there children presents

    its also nothing about sanctify instead of sint maarten  (an other dutch tradition smiler to Halloween)

    the tradition is to set your shoe (with a carrot for sinterklaas horse or a drawing) and sinterklaas will give you a present

    on 5 december he come to you and give you a lot of presents

    in the Netherlands most children (1-7 year) believe sinterklaas is real and give him lots of respect instead of the Father Christmas

    its is forbidden by the law to say in commercials that sinterklaas is fake if ther come a movie that say sinterklaas is fake it MUST be a +12 movie

    most familys dont give presents to there children on Christmas (they just alone eat luxurious)

    @Taintedwisp:

    why they are ''black'' pete's i dont know

    probably from our (ashamed) slave trade. Some are agree with that the black pete is racialist . but COMMON its an children tradition

    most chillers (really) believe in sinterklaas and if your mother say to you ''this year we have white pete's'' a child didn't understand that

    and the story why the black pete's are black (what you say to children) is that they are black because they go by the chimney and they never wash each other

    whatever now is all sinterklaas stuff go away and now we dutch ppl go to the next celebration Christmas and really for your American ppl it seems really stupid but we have fist sinterklaas and after 5 december we build up our Christmas stuff :)
