I'm glad a high profile person highlighted this. It made me kind of sad; it's not even nostalgia, it just seems so much better. I'm envious of War3's features right now lol... aside from its editor being kind of bad compared to sc2's, its bnet is definitely much more conducive...

Side note: Bashiok said D3 would have D2 'irc' esque chat channels and game listings... so far none is found in the beta... eek.

@OneTwoSC Yeah its kind of weird... I try VERY hard no to 'nostalgia hard' on something, which is something a LOT of people do, especially when it comes to gaming. But on paper Bnet 1.0 is flat out better in virtually every way.
The only thing Bnet 2.0 does a little bit better is matchmaking.... which Blizzard has had over a decade to perfect at this point.
I can understand no LAN from a business standpoint... but not leaving out everything else after so much time :\

@Ahli634: Go Well we have to admit that its W3 TFT so it had 2 expansion to make the bnet awesome. But yeah, its much better than the SC2 one.

'Better' is a relative term. It 'takes itself less serious' and isn't as incorporated into Blizzard software as 2.0. There's still a couple of functions SC2 has that War3 doesn't that I like. 'Paid name changes' that Husky talks about, for example, weren't needed in War3 because an account was nothing more than a name with some stats behind it. from day1 of starcraft Iv said wc3 bnet was better, there is no other way around it. (if you couldnt invite friends to a game and such are kinda minor problems that wc3 had)

Its so sad how everything they had achieved went down the drain. I cant even imagine HOTS bnet improving by a lot. It will probly be a little bit better but (clan support, tournaments, better chat channels, better friendlist are a huge thing! and I doubt they will add any of those) I liked how in wc3 you could even see what people are actually playing instead of now you have to be "real ID" friends to see that. The real ID thing is one of the biggest bullshit things ever! Why do they limit things in such a stupid way.

Also I hate the thing that you cannot even write /join chat channel or such commands in sc2 chat or /w somebody...wtf is up with that?!?! The joining channels is also bullshit. Why cant they give us option to bookmark channels and join from there if you so desire (sorta like firefox UI would be sorta nice, draging below search bar). Even though you couldnt be in multichannels on wc3 the chat channels still were superior....

I prefer the interface in bnet 2, where the battle net features are integrated with everything else via movable windows. However I'd love clan support, better chat channels, and all that good stuff. I see potential clan support coming with D3 or HotS. :P

1. Clan support. Sure, ye, its something that should be added.
2. Better chat channels. Nah Sc2 chat channels are better designed. Wc3 had an archaic style thing going on, which was good for its TIME.

You think backwards. Why the fk would I want to write dos prompt style "/join" or "/w". Navigation and control is more streamlined now and faster. The above comment makes you sound really retarded.

What if I dont want people to know what Im playing?. Its none of your business to know what Im playing/doing on the game. If I wanted to let you know, its in my control to do so. Though ofc, match history in Sc2 provides enough for the average joe `friend` added. Did wc3 even have a match history feature?. I cant seem to remember now.

Real ID interfaces into Sc2, WoW, and soon D3. Its a great feature.

C'mon, I remember playing on SC1's BNet (which is extremely similar to WC3's), and I can tell you that BNet 2.0 is regressive. Seriously, the biggest downfall was the 25 friend max. That's seriously one of my biggest problems with it. (That and if someone makes a second account they now take up 2 "friend slots" out of your 25, but you still have to find out the new name. Yeah, 2 biggest problems right there...)

Wraith, I preferred the older BNet. Newer doesn't mean better. It may have been old to you, but I hate how now you have to hit tab to get to talk to someone. In WC3 you can just go "/w randomname blahblahblah" and you can talk to anyone without having to find their stupid name first. Plus, there couldn't be 20 people with the same name as you.

1. Not enough arguments to validate that.

2. I honestly prefer `Doom` over single player FPS games like Crysis/2 etc. Generally speaking Crysis and similar are indeed better games which more people would enjoy/pay/use in this new era of gaming, and my preference makes little difference in denying the reality of that situation. See what I mean?

Nostalgia can be a strong force though.

3. Not sure if I understand correctly your point. Aren`t names in the Sc2 friends list alphabetically sorted?, Whats so hard about finding them?

I think he understood it completely. Just as an FYI, you can do the same with WC3. U simply paste your cd key into your bnet account, no facebook integration but i'm not even touching that social media trash...

I think it was one of many features he discussed, not his main point. Just guessing here.

The majority of people with WarCraft 3 playing experience prefer it over SC2 UI after all this time. It's preferred by the vast majority of the community at this point, the custom map community specifically. I actually got depressed thinking about how much better the system actually is. I can still find better custom maps there too... and people will play them with me!

Typing /f m was incredibly simplistic as opposed to finding the appropriate button to press. You didn't have to scroll was the point, you dind' thave to look, u just messaged. Bnet 2.o may not be regressive like others think, but it is not a step forward either. it's the base of a step forward, but the desired features are not there.

You cannot dispute that lack of an open lobby system, lack of clan support, and general interface hold SC2 back. You cannot say those things would NOT be nice.

Edit: I equate it to a fancy new program that does all kinds of kool stuff. It integrates your notes into facebook, it matches your preferences across multiple platforms, and is really slick looking. When you inform the developer you asked for a pen and paper to write your name on, they look confused. We put buttons, dialogs, and features that have little to no value to the blizzard gamer in the system and leave out the key features. Little fact, there were more clans than maps, there were more clans than map makers... why wasn't this feature put in second, third or fourth during beta!?!

Oh and Husky might not get it for some folks, but the 25k views and hundreds of agreements on day one mean there is a big issue.

I see no reason to hate at Blizzard. They only failed at the popularity system. You're all pointing out minor issues, which are unimportant, and wouldnt have been complained about, if Blizzard had got the popularity system right to start off with. It's nothing but a bad chain reaction. Take it easy everybody, and give them a chance. Every game or service has some issues at release. They'll get fixed.

The issues with bnet Im having are quite reasonable because they aren't 'accessories' but rather important for a NORMAL (yet alone awesome) bnet experience.

Important - There are just technical difficulties to do the things without them..

Accessories - things that do not affect directly gameplay and you can still perform well without them

Watching replays together - something quite fun that they could've introduced, WHY not? It's like they really aim to not give the features everyone would feel comfortable with..

Clans - I don't care that much they could be called an accessory, not a necessity but was fun having it ay?

What would fall under the accessories and not that needed is having a better chat channel when there is already one that no one uses (no kidding me and others use Party Chat not Chat Channels... Chat channels maybe if someone only wants to call people from public to play their map, otherwise not)

I miss animated portraits but this is totally an accessory..

LAN - i know everyone wanted it but in today's world where everyone can use decent enough internet... this should not be an issue at all. Maybe because in most cases people are far enough from each other to have to use internet and not LAN

I've had that attitude since bnet came out back in April 2010 or whenever. We can only keep saying that for so many years until we should probably have some concern, right? We gave them constructive criticism since the beta and have seen SOME good results, but ultimately Husky's vid highlighted what we still don't have (surprised me actually). I kind of fear this cycle will continue.

I'm trying desperately not to become a Rodrigo here but watching that vid did not help lol. Yes, I like bnet 2.0's party system, group convos, permanent account name (I like this tbh), being able to DL/buy games online, being able to /r through chat still, being able to view your friends list ingame, and ease to send updates of your map to the community. But none of this matters if the system kills your desire to use it.

Taking every other complaint away, let's just look at region-locking and a lack of a global map pool. Coming from SC2Mapster where we are a global community, it really just seems silly and backwards... considering we HAD this feature (region unlocked) years ago. The good news though is that Diablo 3 is not region locked!

sight...you cannot see how multiple functions could be integrated? I only stay on 1 channel on bnet anyway so I have need for multiple windows. Yes ofc multi window is natural develpoment but not being able to resize or write any commands is bullshit. Yes I would actully prefer joining channels with /j sc2mapster than clicking the windows and so on...yes I would like to use /whisper at sometimes cause I want to arange games with people but I cannot contact them in anyway if they arent on my friendlist and we happen to drop from a game. And if its just about speed Im quite certain Ill join faster with /j sotis that with click click sotis enter (for example).

YET AGAIN you fail to see what could be done and hasnt been done. In wc3 you only saw what people were playing if both parties added each other and even that could be easilly just added function to hide all the info or not to hide...you are the one who is thinking so narrow minded.

Im sorry for asuming you could see how it should have been developed. There was no need to remove the functions when you could just improve them, but I guess some people are just stupid/blizzard fanboys.

And its just the overal feeling combined in wc3 was better, everyone who played wc3 should agree, it could be the community was better or bnet had features and such but overal it was better experience.

With just minor tweaking it would have been just fine...Im really dissapointed how you fail to see these things.

No, wait, Zenx1 is just a silly kid that suffers from nostalgia and a critical lack of understanding.

Wc3 and its b.net 1.0 was good back then, but now its thrash. Failsky is probably being a drama queen as usual(nothing better to do) and exaggerating the situation(Haven`t see the vid yet).
