    QUESTIONS THREAD

Okay guys, this is the new way I'll be running the show. Basically, I'll check out this thread for any questions and answer them on the stream until I run out of time or run out of questions. No questions = No show, so keep em coming!

Edit- The summer is quickly approaching, so I may end up changing the format of the show for the duration... We shall see. I'll also be posting the actual VOD's in this thread from now on, for easy acess.

I would like an overview of the Data editor, the basics. Especially how effects and behaviors work together, how you trigger behaviors with effects for abilities and attacks (weapons). I'm starting to get a hang of it but hearing someone talk about it would be really helpful and i think it could help alot of other mappers aswell.

    • Maps made: Battle Ships (The original for WC3), Archer wars (WC3).
    • Working on: Cats and Ratlings

Good point. I haven't done an overview of the data editor yet. Anybody else?

This is something I've touched on in my TT's, but what about an explanation of the various brushes and what they are good at/should be used for?

Not sure if my question will be put in but could you show how to make a simple run and shoot control system. Like how Blizzard showed off the immortal shooting while using wasd for movement and he aimed where the mouse was even if he wasn't shooting.

Also should be easy is how do you make a mod with models and textures in them?

google sc2streamster and find a link to livestream. It should be that one then look through their previous videos. I would post the link but I'm too lazy to find it and Moz and Zelda don't have links to the stream in their sig so I don't want to go looking.

hey, i have a few questions

first, i am making a map where you run a round as ghosts and your only attack is sniping, how do i set sc2 to display the amount of kills people have earned?,

also i want to have a respawn timer of 5 seconds, when i made one in galaxy editor, i told the trigger to "wait" 5 seconds before respawning the player unit but i got all sorts of glitches and it didnt work correctly most of the time.

    btw @joecab http://www.livestream.com/sc2streamster

Welcome to sc2mapster, etertay! Feel free to send me a PM if you need anything.

Your question is a bit too specific for me to devote a show to it, but I'd be happy to help you out. You need to make sure your unit (the ghost) has a death time of -1, and not 0 (the default value). Send me a PM if you want more details.

hmm what can I ask about? How about making a charge spell. Like the spell goes into a channel kind of phase and if it's only at 25% and you click at the target or something it will attack with 1/4 the attack power. If you do 50% it does 1/2 the attack power. Then 75% is 3/4 and 100% is full power. Was just watching PSO2 videos of forces and they have a charge mechanic, looks stupid. But it's something to learn about.

Is it possible to create a reversal/counter spell? Basically you use spell and for a brief moment, maybe 2 or .5 seconds(depends on game time speed) you will stand still and counter any attack that hits you.

For lulz. Can you create a 2.5D fighter? By 2.5D I mean 3D models, which is easy, but on a 2D plane so like SF4. Only do this if no other questions are asked, it'll be fun.

Also how would you create a grid like system for Plants vs Zombies. I could probably just look through my ipad and get random ideas I like from apps I have and ask how to make those. Also my questions should be last. I'm only helping you get stuff if nobody asks anything.

Also I want to know this for real. Can you create godrays in sc2? God rays are the rays of light that bend around objects giving it a pillar of light if it's going through a building. UE3 has been going big on lightrays, aka godrays, for the ipad and even flash.

im not sure if this is a simple enough question to go on the show, but how do you have players vote on the type of game like in squadron tower defense ppl vote on the properties of the game.

that and an overview of preparing your map for b.net would be nice

    thanks again (ill be watching)

Can you explain how this custom textured terrain was implemented? As in how did they even get the original texture, importing it and so forth.

Testing the new countdown clock script, so kindly provided by molsterr. Everybody say thank!

By the way, let me know if this script is not working for you. You should see a clock right below this.

M of "minute" isn't capitalized, your date lacks the month and there's a space between "4:30" and "am".

What, no, I'm not bored. Go away.

Molsterr! You failed me. *shun* :D

Although since I'm not posting these things more than a month in advance, it shouldn't be too confusing.

uhh ill get the M capted, there is no need for a month so i left it out it always counts down to the next of that "day", and .. yeah.. there should be a space there o.0.

but . if it says 4:30 am for you, its working ^_^

Only two things its missing is, once it hits that time, its going to reset to 7 days... im going to make it wait 1 hour before it restarts, and ...if the time is 1:00 or 2:00 it shows as 1:0 or 2:0.

edit: done.. from 11:30pm - 12:30 pm my time... (or one hour after it starts) it should display "NOW LIVE" with a link instead of a timer.. and the footer should switch to "next show at:" so lets see..
