Sc2Streamster: Epic Streaming with capital E

    #1 May 11, 2011 at 13:39 UTC - 1 like

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to present to you:

    Sc2Streamster

What is this I don't even?!
Sc2Streamster is going to be Sc2Mapster's streaming channel, where we plan on holding shows (similar to Day9's) focused around mapping. We plan to bring mappers (that's you!) or even just people with a mild interest in mapping (that's you, if it wasn't earlier!) a mostly daily show that revolves around all aspects of the Galaxy Editor.

    Cool, so what've you got?
Currently, Sc2Streamster is a project ran by me with backing from Sixen. The plan is that every evening, monday through friday, we bring you something interesting in terms of mapping on the stream. Our Schedule so far:

Monday - Data Mondays are currently not being hosted.
Tuesday - Triggering Tuesday! This evening, ??? will be here to show people how to code cleanly and work with triggers.
Wednesday - Newbie Wednesday! This day, zeldarules28 will be your host in explaining some of the very basics, so you can get to mapping even if you've never touched the editor before.
Thursday - Terraining Thursday! This day, I shall be your host and handle the terraining portion of the editor.

Sunday - Mapcraft! Sundays from 9 to 11 PM CET (GMT+1), which is around noon for US citizens, Mapcast will be a podcast hosted by the lovely TheAlmaity, Mozared and our very own Sixen. We'll have one different guest each weak to talk about the latest maps and buzz in the modding community. Mapcraft is also currently not being hosted.

Note that we plan to hold 10-15 minute Q&A sessions at the end of each 'daily', to tie up some loose ends for people.

    Can I help?
We will need a lot of help if we want to keep this running all properly and well, and if you think you can assist us in some way, be it in creating overlays or something else, don't hesitate to throw me a PM and we'll consider your offer.

Alright, so when does this go down, and where?
Well, as you can see, we plan to have a show pretty much every workday. The times are a bit problematic, because all of us are in different timezones.

(NOTE: THE "X PM" AND "YTIME" AND "GMT-Z" ARE PLACEHOLDERS AND WILL BE FILLED IN ASAP)
-(US) Data Monday will start at 4 PM on EST, which is GMT-5
-(US) Triggering Tuesday will start at 9 PM on CDT, which is GMT-5
-(US) Newbie Wednesday will start at 8:30 PM on PST, which is GMT-8
-(EU) Terraining Thursday will start at 9 PM on CET, which is GMT+1
-(EU) Sunday's Mapcast will start at 9 PM CET, which is GMT+1
Note that this means that if you are in the US, most EU casts will start between 12 AM and 6 PM in the afternoon, depending on your American timezone. If you are in EU, US casts are mostly unwatchable because they happen at times like 6-7 AM in the morning. Also note that all videos should be available as VOD files on the stream, should you want to view a show lateron.

As for the where, at the place also linked at the top of this post: http://www.livestream.com/sc2streamster

    Hope to see you there!

Hey, as much as I love the idea behind this project and I would contribute if needed/possible, I think it's rather hard to keep it on a daily basis. I mean, it surely is possible but if you say it like you just did you are sort of 'forced' to do it on a daily basis. While it might be better too release 2 or 3 episodes a weak going deep in a certain area for an hour ?

I really sound like a ignorant fool now I guess but, it's easy too lose interests from outsiders if you don't follow your plan :(

So yeah, don't take my words in a bad way, it's just my opinion. Best of luck with the project nonetheless, hope I get an interview sometime later on when I grow up haha !

Terrain orientated creator. Heavy usage of doodad/elevation tricks. If you ever need help/ideas on Terrain you can find me on mIRC whenever I'm on my computer.

We do intend to go fairly deep. The days I've set are 'themes' - we intend on picking a new area within these themes. For example, I plan on doing my first terraining bit entirely focused on a map I once made, noting how to best create indoor environments and showing off one or two tricks I used to make it look original. Mephs might choose to make a spell for one day and edit an existing unit for another.

The reason the planning looks so shaky right now is because it simply is only two folks, and we're just starting this off. I'm not going to lie - we can't provide the level of quality casters like Day9 can right off the bat. We just need some people to stick with us and give us some hands to get something great up. Hence why I'm saying that all help is welcome. It'll smooth out over time, I can promise you that.

I wish I could help out with Thursday and Fridays shows because I know triggers and I try to help newbies however I can, but it's a bit late for me (Actually, very late. 2-3am FTL D:). That being said, I'd be happy to help out in any way possible, providing it's a decent time :).

Note that we try to adjust the cast timings to work for (nearly) every part of the planet. SEA will suffer, but if EU casts it late in the evening and US in the afternoon or such, it should work out for everyone. If you're in GB, you could cast from say, 10 to 11, which would be 9 to 10 for European folks and noon-ish for Americans. What we have so far is only a general plan tailored out mostly for me and Mephs.

Well, I watch Day9 on a daily basis on his channel. It's not the fact on times on the stream though, it's providing content worth watching. There's no real need to be exactly on the same time every day, since it is recorded anyway right ?

How long would you like the casts to be ? Around 1 hour it seems ? I'm always up for helping out sometime really. I got the hardware for it and the time ;)

    #7 May 11, 2011 at 17:36 UTC - 0 likes

Around 1 hour, yup. As for the content, that's the only thing I can promise will be good, really, hence why I've got faith. Mephs and me are thinking this through to make sure we present something interesting, we're not just gonna show 1 hour of us playing music and placing down shit in a map.

    Nice idea Moz/Mephs :)

I'd really like to help out (Mostly data and triggering), but my upload speed is so terrible all I can do is VoDs :(

I could help with... Uh... Other stuff, though. If you got something for me to do. You said you needed overlays? Tell me what you need and I'll do my best (I know a few image editing tricks... PM me if you want me to link some things I made)
Anyway, if there's anything I can help with, ask :)

Also, would the Friday show overlap with Map Night? I mean, if it's Mephs doing it at 10 am his time for 1 hour, it'd end 19:00 CET here, at the start of map night, so that shouldn't be a problem. But if you're doing it from 10-11 PM, that means we lose you for 1 hour on map night D:

In the beginning, the universe was created.
This was regarded as a bad move and made a lot of people angry.

Hmm yeah, the thing regarding map night is a good point. Might have to reconsider how we handle that, prefer not to make this thing overlap with other mapster initiatives.

That said; we need all the help we can get. Suggestions, feedback, overlays, anything to spice it up. I don't have anything specifically in mind, but feel free to go wild if you feel like making an overlay. I suppose we'd need a smaller one to have on screen at all time and/or a large one (full screen, basically) for pre-show.

    #10 May 11, 2011 at 17:49 UTC - 0 likes

I'll try and make some full screen overlays soon. What do you need for the smaller one? Name of person? Theme?

    #11 May 11, 2011 at 17:52 UTC - 0 likes

Name of the stream, probably. And possibly the epic slogan :D

The name of the person in a smaller font would be helpful too, so anybody who joins can immediately see whether he's watching Mephs, me, or someone else.

    #12 May 11, 2011 at 18:26 UTC - 0 likes

Too bad triggering and data editing will be so boring to watch...Terraining might be a good idea.

But I trust mephs, the Sound making stream was so funny and epic :D.

    My youtube channel: Here!

Project "I want to be a ninja" - You want to be a ninja too right?

    Project "Goku Firebat" - Kaaameeehaaameee...

Note that I had a little talk with Mephs; all his shows will go up at 8 PM MST (Mountain Time = GMT-7), to add in some consistancy. This means all shows currently planned will go up at 8 PM MST, except my show on tuesday which will be 10 PM CET (GMT+1), which translates to 2 PM MST.

    #14 May 13, 2011 at 00:45 UTC - 0 likes

Great idea. I was hoping when Mephs said he'd do something like this that we could make it kind of an 'official' sc2mapster thing. Great idea.

Send me a PM with any questions or comments.

Ask questions for Newbie Wednesday here

    Love it!

I think there would need to be a set time for these, so players know when they can start watching if this is all the're interested in

    Dear Mapsters,

I decided to develop more employable skills then mapmaking.

Good Luck mapsters I hope to return to mapping next summer!

Well, I'm not gonna set an alarm on it, but you can do the maths =P. We aim for 1 hour dailies with 45 min of content and 15 min of Q&A. Means that if we start at 10, Q&A should start around 10:45.

    #17 May 13, 2011 at 04:15 UTC - 0 likes

I'm thinking for Monday's featured project we'll develop a sort of brush mechanic like in League of Legends, to kick it off. Suggestions for the next episode(s) will be based off of the Q&A after each episode. So get your questions ready.

As long as VODs is uploaded within the day then people probably wont mind time zone etc...

I could do Thursdays, but do you have a certain path that you were planning on following for the videos? newbie ---> intermediate ----> advanced?

I would love to see less tutorials and more discussion of actual projects, and interviews with map developers. That is a niche which has yet to be filled, and would be quite interesting imo.

I'm not working on any of my listed maps. I'm working on a fairly extensive... other project. Progress is coming rapidly.

Estimate: 70% towards a Playable Version.
