There isn't any problem to disable units from walking over the water. You just need to create units to block the pathing over the water cells. The only problem is that the more units you use as pathing blockers, the more laggy your map will be. That's the reason why I decided to remove them from my map. An alternative would be to design your own a* pathfinding algorithm and use it to modify the pathing route of your units whenever they are issued to move. That would also allow you to make units take the best pathing route depending on the gradient of the terrain. You can find some nice examples of people at sc2mapster who have managed to implement such a system in their maps.

I've actually already spent time studying your map! It would certainly be very cool to combine our work somehow to get a game as close as possible to the original. The one problem that I think we will still have is unit pathing. We can't have units walking under water or units that attempt to walk over water when ordered to move between two points with water in between. If that problem could be solved, it would then make sense to have both!
Yep, that was a map I created some time ago. It wasn't meant to be played, it was more of a "proof of concept". Apart from that, I didn't have the time it would have required me to get it to a playable state.

go to european server and type in populous. First i accidentaly opened that map thinking its yours. Its unplayable but has a dinamic terran change. You shall check it.

Domper, I have thought a lot about how to implement this feature. Right now the problem is I don't have a good way to dynamically change the pathing layer along with the terrain, so that units know how to avoid water.

Populous 3 is one of my favorite classic game so i have to try it. +1 for the custom models also. Will you try to recreate the dinamic world changes also? (like raising of water)
+1 for imported models, not especially from wow, but I think that would give the game a new dimension.
I had so much fun playing the original game, I even began to create my own one on WarCraft III (I stopped because of the limited capacity of the old editor). I'll try to test this someday. :)
